Don't Shoot the Coonhound!

Last week when Mom and Rick came up they brought me a hand-held GPS unit that I can use for hiking. I am thrilled to now be able to statistically quantify my hiking experiences.

This morning I tried the unit out for the first time. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a topographical map, so it just charts my course on a white background. I did find that the trip up to the waterfall in Adams Canyon is 1.35 miles and I gain 400 feet in elevation. I am disappointed that my round trip is only 2.7 miles. It feels like I should be covering a lot more ground in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Back in June I went to pet Shady one day and discovered a hole in her side. Tuesday night it happened again. I ended up taking her to the vet here in Kaysville this time because Eric isn't in his clinic on Wednesdays. The vet and the vet tech argued over whether or not it looked like she had been shot with a pellet gun. The tech thought that it looked like she'd been shot, but the vet said that if she had been shot the pellet would have driven her fur into the wound. The tech argued that since Shady had been licking her wound she would have licked the hair out of it. The vet said that even if she had been shot it would do more damage to dig around for the pellet so the best thing to do was just give her antibiotics and let it heal on its own. She's a very quiet dog so I doubt that she bothers any of the neighbors and since the hoodlum moved out last year I can't imagine any of my neighbors doing something like that. I also can't figure out what she could be cutting herself on around my house or yard. I don't want the wound to get infected and Tick was never good about keeping a bandage on, so I decided to put a T shirt on her when we go hiking.
Check out this sexy beast! She does look good sporting a T shirt.

She also enjoys making friends along the trail. These two were having such a good time playing together.

I am sick to think somebody would be shooting pellets at a sweet little coonhound. People are so f'ing deranged! She do look real good in that daisy duke style t-shirt.

After seeing your mileage I decided to calculate my own from my run and walk with the dogs... disappointed to say the least. I was hoping to lose the 10 lbs I gained last year and I am not losing anything, I am maintaining my new weight :( my run is only 2 and a half miles and my walk with the dogs is the same. So I am doing 5 miles a day 5 days a week and MAINTAINING this blasted weight! I also walk the animals on the weekends and occasionally during the week take them for 1 or 2 10 minute walks in the afternoon...arghhhhh!

At my old weight I was doing far less exercising and the same amount of eating... this is some sort of conspiracy I am just sure of it. By the way how is the new diet/lifestyle going?

Angela, I feel your pain. In addition to the 2.7 mile hike every morning we do a 2.5 mile walk every evening, and although Mother says that I look thinner since going off gluten the scale has stayed the same.

The gluten-free lifestyle is okay, but I won't claim to be thrilled about it. We went out to Texas Roadhouse last night and skipping the rolls nearly killed me. You just can't do that many things with rice and potatoes, so I am already getting a little bored with it. I picked up some gluten-free pizza crust mix which I will be trying out tonight, so we will see how that goes.

Poor Shady Lady! She don't deserve to be shot!

I am not walking.....my scale is close to the same but I feel I am gaining. Got to bite the bullet again and chil on the snacks.

Okay.. that is one sexy dog in a T-shirt.. and I lived and hiked all over those mountains, so wondering where you find all these beautiful waterfalls.. could it be the one or two that were the demise of the mudslide that wiped out our childhood neighborhood? Most likely not..

And if it seems as if someone is shooting pellets at my dog? I would most definately be investigating, kicking some ass (excuse my french)and prosecuting those sick F$@&'S... It amazes me how people can treat each other and animals of all kinds as if it doesn't matter.. Hell.. the fish in my pond died and I cried.. because it was my stupidity that killed them after 10 years of living in my pond.

Wow.. I really do have a heart!!!
